Random Appliqué Projects

Here are some random appliqué projects that I have completed in the last year.

My first introduction into appliqué. Yet again, I have to thank my sister for her lessons. She knew I would love this since I am big into scrapbooking as well.

After finishing the above project, I decided I wanted to do more. I fell in love with appliqué from the beginning. I love how I can create my own designs and add my personal touch.

Here is my second project I created without a pattern.

Here are some other appliqué projects I have completed in the past year.

First Quilt Project

This was my first project as a beginner. My sister had lots of patience to help me learn the skills I needed to make a quilt.  The quilt top was finished in about 5 days during our first Sewing Vacation. However, the quilting took a long time.

This is a picture of the beginning...making the rows.

This is the quilt top finished.

It took me a while to figure out how I wanted to quilt this colourful project. I decided to use a variegated thread. It is all different bright colours. I used a zigzag stitch. I am not sure if I will ever do that stitch again on a quilt. It took a lot of patience and time. But it turned out pretty nicely :)

After completing the quilting on this quilt, I only had the binding left. I have never done binding on anything this big so I decided to take it back on our sewing vacation to finish it up.

I am very pleased with the outcome of my first quilt. The feeling of completing a quilt is great motivation to continue working and completing other projects.

Happy quilting :)

First Attempt on a Sewing Machine

I have been watching my mom, sister and many aunts sew for years. I finally decided it would be fun to try and learn how to sew, little did I know it would become an addiction. My sister was the brave one that offered to take the time to show me a few things. She helped me make a scrappy mug rug. She began by showing me now to use a rotary cutter, how to do piecing, quilting and binding.
This is the little project I was able to complete :)
I had a great teacher to show me a thing or two about sewing and quilting. After enjoying making this mug rug so much, I decided it was time to look into buying my very own sewing machine.

This was done May 2014.
